"I not only use all the brains I have,
but all those I can borrow as well."
Woodrow
Wilson
As our society has changed in recent years,
an old phenomenon has again spread across
the country from New England to California:
the growth of mutual self-help support groups
to share ideas to help each other and ourself.
Ben Franklin had one 250 years ago when he
and friends formed a group called the `Junto'
and Emerson and friends did a similar thing
150 years ago with their `Saturday Club'.
AA is the great grand-dad of today's groups.
Job-hunt support groups are another example.
Going to such groups gives us other options
of things that we can try that might help us to
handle things differently. As other people work
to find ways to solve problems that they face,
they discover some ideas that help them, that
we can also add to our tool kits in our lives.
Can you think of an area where you'd like to be
in a support group of people with similar goals?
