Principle of Replacement
                        and Trading Up

"Every man in his lifetime needs to thank his faults.
Like the wounded oyster, he mends his shell with pearl."

                                                                                                            Emerson

The self-actualizing principle of Replacement says,
"The best way to correct an unwanted impulse is to
replace it with a better activity that satisfies the need
but doesn't have negative side effects."

That involves Trading Up our self-defeating impulses
for healthier activities and more positive spirals to help us
outgrow the vicious circles that can pull our life downward.
