Importance of Limits

"In order to ride easy in the saddle, you first have to harness the horse."

You have to be clear enough to hear and strong enough to follow your inner voice in order to find the magic in life. "No" is as necessary as "Yes" to be able to go adventuring in life, because in order to say "Yes" safely, you have to be able to say "No". Knowing our limits helps us get free.

Our feelings are the feedback that tell us what works and what doesn't. Not listening to our emotions because we're rushing for solutions is like trying to get some place fast by closing our eyes and pressing even harder on the gas. But we also have to listen to our intuition or inner voice and to distinguish it from our appetites and insecurities. Otherwise, it's easy to lose our moral compass.

We can't master life unless we first get mastery of ourself. And that requires limiting some parts of ourself for others that we value more. Being strong enough to succeed in life requires growing strong enough to overcome our weaknesses. That's why some of the strongest people you can meet in life are those you will find in mutual self-help recovery groups. Once you've been to the bottom of the well and climbed back, you know you can handle anything that life hands you.
