Dress Rehearsal Dialogue Tool

"A wise man thinks it better not to enter the fight than to win it."
La Rochefoucauld

Conflict resolution "fit" is one of the most important determiners of long-term success of a relationship.

One way to reduce confrontations is to write a Dress Rehearsal Dialogue before confronting the other person. It involves taking a sheet of paper and drawing a line down the center, then writing, "If they say _______" at the top of the left-hand column and writing, "I'll respond _______" at the top of the right side.

Then jot down the points you imagine that they might bring up or the ways in which they are likely to respond. And opposite each point, write down ways you think you could handle it to avoid or overcome the problem.
