"God is the friend of silence."
Mother Teresa
We need to learn to hear our own inner voice and life's messages so we can spot the
signals and messages that are being sent to us. Meditation has been a primary way of
achieving that for centuries. What meditation does is calm our emotions and quiet our
thinking, giving us the feeling of relaxation and a peaceful calmness of mind. It helps
transform our lives from the relentless zap-zap-zap pace of the world to one of slower,
calmer, more gently rounded arcs in life.
As you meditate over time, you start to be aware of a peaceful halo forming inside you. As
you develop the ability to quiet your mind, it expands and begins to surround you more and
more with a calm sense of serenity. It's as if all life were taking place in slow motion,
like an under-water ballet. Instead of a fight, life becomes a dance. It's like youve been
living under a pounding waterfall all your life and then suddenly realize that it's been
turned off -- and it's quiet.
The more we meditate, the more that quietness takes over our minds. We find ourselves
having a greater margin in dealing with the world, slowing up to consider the consequences
of different ways of acting. We see through to the heart or the deepest levels of
whats going on more easily and respond more sensitively, naturally and gracefully.
